What I like best about chamomile is that it provides a calming energy in the day, so if I'am under stress, I can drink chamomile tea without becoming sleepy. Peppermint. This tea has been used since Ancient Egyptian times as a digestive, and for good reason. It is extremely effective at relieving digestive problems ranging from indigestion to stomach cramps from mild food poisoning. Always have peppermint tea on hand in your own kitchen.

Business monarchies still exist, but innovation is an ever-present revolutionary force. Kings of industry fall at the feet of innovators with a better idea. For well over a hundred years, Eastman Kodak dominated the consumer photography market and for much of this time, Kodak was the innovator. Kodachrome film, instamatics and disposable cameras were all the best ideas of their time and helped cement Kodak's dominance, its monarchy. But Kodak became complacent. They ignored the trends of the very industry it created and ruled. By the late 1990s, digital photography began taking a large market share away from Kodak, which remained steadfast in its belief that film photography was the only good idea. Photography customers wanted a new, better idea and Kodak wasn't responding. In what seemed like an instant, Kodak became an afterthought in consumer photography.

The hearing aid industry has been operating the same way for decades and is not paying attention to the cries of change demanded by its customers. Hearing aid companies annually release sub-par products, which add to the overwhelming and confusing arsenal of products already offered. Additionally, these hearing aids are typically a repackaging of last year's model with a new name and branded features which aim at deflecting attention to the over promised and under delivered elements such as noise and feedback cancellation. #5: Comfortable Fit the vast most of today's hearing aids require a mold to be taken of the ear and ear canal. A silicon-based, taffy-like substance is poured into the ear canal. The tight shells of today's hearing aids are specifically designed to seal off the ear canal in an attempt to manage feedback. Occlusion is the unpleasant result of this approach. Hearing aids that use soft foam sleeves reduce occlusion.

#8: Accurate Programming Conventional hearing exams are conducted using headphones, which have different acoustical properties than the hearing aids. In addition, they may only test 6 to 10 frequencies. New hearing aids use the hearing aids themselves as headphones and test and program the full 16 frequency band range, resulting in less translation and programming errors and fewer return visits.

#9: Remote Controllable Traditional hearing aids offer their owners limited control over their devices. Wearers must struggle with little knobs on the hearing aid faceplate. The knobs are difficult to adjust and typically only control volume. The newest hearing aids are controlled by a handheld remote control. 5 easy ways to lose weight without killing yourself

I’ve always been overweight. It’s always bothered me, but I never figured I could do anything about it. It’s in my genes, I would say. I’ve tried as well as haven’t lost, I would say. It’s too hard. Maybe I’m just meant to be this way?

Then, about nine months ago, I decided to interrupt making excuses. I am proud to say that I have lost sixty pounds to date, and am still losing more. I am working my way to my ultimate goal of 100 pounds lost. Best of all, I’m still alive! I didn’t keel over on the treadmill with a face smeared with Slim Fast remains. I didn’t beat myself to death with the cardboard hardness of frozen diet dinners.

If you’re sick of reading about the celebrities who lose weight by spending four hours at a time in their personal million-dollar gym and their private trainers, then listen up. You don’t have to be rich, and you don’t have to kill yourself. Now, put down the Lean Cuisine and step away from the freezer.

1. Eat bigger lunches and smaller dinners
Most people eat their largest meal of the day at dinner time, for whatever reason. But if you have small meals throughout the day and then dump a ton of calories into your body at night, you give yourself no time to burn off that meal before heading to bed. (And no, watching Survivor after dinner does not burn calories!) If you eat your biggest meal at lunchtime, not only do you give your body ample time to burn those calories off, but you’re more full come dinner time, which results in—ta da!—smaller portions.

2. Give in to your cravings (in moderation!)
Ladies will be familiar with the “bad boy syndrome”—he’s bad, he’s forbidden, he will do horrible things to you and tick off your parents. Now think of your favorite candy bar (or fried food or baked good or whatever else's your guilty pleasure). It’s bad, it’s forbidden, it will do horrible things to you and tick off your hips. But, ooh, doesn’t that make you want it that much more? If that Harley-drivin’ hottie back in high school hadn’t been forbidden, you probably wouldn’t have thought of him more than once. So, take the chain and padlock off the cookie jar and start thinking of them differently. They’re not forbidden.

Giving in to your craving for the “bad food” will weaken its allure. If Snickers are your poison, then get a bag of fun-sized Snickers and keep them around for when an attack hits. Eat one. (No, not one bag, one fun-sized bar.) You will be far less probably to indulge in a King-sized bar later because you have already satisfied your craving and torn down your perception of it being bad and wrong.

3. Stay away from soda
Ever look at the nutritional facts for soda? If you haven’t, then I’m sorry to smash your delusion. Coke, Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew . . . they’re soaked with calories. Again, don’t think of them as forbidden. I had a severe addiction to Mountain Dew. Seriously, I would go through a 2 liter a day. Do you know how many calories are in a 20 ounce bottle of Dew? Almost 300! Now, if I feel like I need a Mountain Dew, I have a 12 ounce able to of it—far less calories, and I’ve satisfied my craving.

4. Count your calories
I never realized how bad my diet was until I started counting my calories. Every time I would put something in my body, I wrote it down in my food journal. At the end of the day, I would add up my calorie intake. I was shocked! I was eating frozen diet dinners and drinking diet sodas . . . how were my calories still so high?

You don’t add up calories in your head. It never works. You have to write them down. See what foods you eat the most of that are the worst, and find a healthy alternative. A normal diet consists of 2,000 calories a day, but if you’re trying to lose weight, you should ideally shoot for 1,200-1,500 calories a day. You will be surprised how quickly they add up. Once you can identify the problems, then it will be easier for you to find solutions.

5. Get shakin’!
You need exercise in several form, but again, don’t think you have to have Jessica Simpson’s home gym and trainer. Put on your ipod and dance crazily for 30 mins. Buy one of Carmen Electra’s strip tease exercise DVDs and surprise the hubby. Park at the very end of the Walmart parking lot and walk all the way up to the store. You don’t need fancy equipment to get exercise. Whatever isn’t sitting on the couch or at your desk is exercise.

5. Limitations

This is a delicate balancing act. On the one hand, you need to know your limitations and not try to take on more than you can handle. That will most certainly lead to failure.

Yet, on the different hand, unless you try to move beyond the realm of the achievable into the impossible, you will never know what you can achieve.

This can mean dealing with failure, but that can be a step forward; as the next point illustrates.

6. Take a tip from Thomas Edison

This is the man credited with creating much of the 20th century technology . Yet, he dealt with failure constantly.

When asked how he could do that and still find the strength and determination to go on, Edison just smiled.

The incandescent light bulb took hundreds of experiments to perfect. His attitude about every failure? Each experiment was merely one more he didn't have to do again.

Taking Lutein For Macular Degeneration - Preliminary Studies Are Promising

Several studies have looked at the value of lutein for macular degeneration. One research group refers to it as "anti-aging ophthalmology". They group it with lifestyle related diseases. It does seem that unhealthy eating habits as well as other lifestyle factors, such as smoking, increase the risk, but here are genetic factors that come into play as well. Researchers first began to look at lutein and macular degeneration, because the antioxidant is one of the components of a healthy retina.
The retina is light sensitive tissue that lines the inner surface of the eye. The macula is a tiny spot inside the retina that is responsible for central vision. Light striking the retina causes a cascade of chemical and electrical events that eventually send signals to the visual centers of the brain. Doctors recommending lutein for macular degeneration do so because some studies have found that taking it and other antioxidants decrease the risk of blindness from the "dry" type of the disease.

While there is no conclusive evidence linking low blood levels of lutein and macular degeneration, it has been noted that there is a lower concentration of both lutein and zeaxanthin in the retinas of people with the disease. Until recently, this could exclusively be measured post-mortem, but one research group has found a way to measure zeaxanthin concentration. So, it may soon be achievable for ophthalmologists to measure the antioxidant concentration in their offices and be able to make certain recommendation.

A six year study conducted at the National Eye Institute in Maryland draws the strongest connection between lutein and macular degeneration prevention. As a Rancho Santa Margarita Boot Camp Trainer, I have heard rumors circulating. Many so-called truths about developing strong large muscle mass are hyped up ideas that somehow have been given the status of scientific truth when they are nothing more than dangerous gossip.

The five biggest myths are:

Myth #1 Lactic Acid Causes Fatigue

Researchers nearly 100 years ago discovered the existence of lactic acid in the muscles. They discovered that lactic acid increased with muscle fatigue.

In reality, lactic acid does increase with muscle fatigue. The truth is that while lactic acid does increase during fatigue and does lead to the burning sensation in the muscle, it does not cause fatigue. Your muscles produce lactic acid, which is then sent to your liver to be reprocessed into more energy. The fatigue is caused by the accumulation of protons within the muscles. These protons are the end happen of the breakdown of glycogen that fuels the muscle while you exercise.

Myth #2 Lift Weights slowly, it's Safer!

When rehabilitating, patients are often instructed to perform the exercises slowly and meticulously. This is so that they retrain their nerves and muscles. Some trainers got that idea that it was safer to do so and thought that it would stay away the risk of injury.

In reality, as long as you control your movements during the lowering and raising actions, you won't set yourself up for injury. However, reps should be performed more quickly, which'll cause the muscles to product more quick acting muscle fibers, which are crucial to real world situations. Your muscles need something to work for, so just keep pushing their total limits in terms of higher weights and more reps. The cornerstone of muscle growth is progressive overload. Not under load.

Myth # 5 Getting Pumped Gains Muscle

People noticed a swelling of the muscles when they performed more reps with little to no rest in between those reps. They all thought that this meant they were getting bigger muscles.

In reality, as your muscle stretch and contract during your workouts, they become engorged with blood. This causes a temporary swelling. It's only a reflection of how long your muscles have been under the tension while working out. Not how much muscle you are building. By giving them little rest in between sets, you able to pump up your muscles. As soon as you rest and the blood pressure goes down, so will the swelling. It doesn't mean your muscle will be growing. This will just lead to muscle fatigue and, if over done, could lead to muscle injury. Instead, use heavy weights and build better with a progressive load and better rest in between sets.

There are more myths out there. Before you buy into them, look to look if they could be scientifically proven. Don't be too quick to accept myths, they don't always lead to better gains. In fact, they can actually sometimes lead to dangerous injury. It doesn't matter who tells you something that seems probably to be a miracle for your gains, chances are its all beefed up hype. The 2 Pounds Per Week Rule - And How To Burn Fat Faster

Why do you always hear that 2 pounds a week is the maximum you should lose? If you train hard while watching calories carefully shouldn't you be able to lose more weight without losing muscle or damaging your health? What if you want to lose fat faster? How do you explain the fast weight losses on The Biggest Loser? With the diet marketplace flooded with rapid weight loss claims, these questions need and deserve a little of honest answers. Want to cognize where that 2 pounds per week rule comes from and what it really takes to burn more than 2 pounds of fat per week? Read on.
The truth is, two pounds is not the maximum you able to safely lose in a week. That's only a general recommendation and a good benchmark for setting weekly goals. It's sensible and realistic because it's based on average or typical results.

The actual amount of fat you could lose depends on numerous factors. For example, the more body fat you carry, the more probably you'll be to safely lose more than two pounds per week. Can you lose more than 2 lbs of fat in a week? Yes, although it's easier in the beginning. It gets harder as your diet progresses. How do you do it? My rule is, extraordinary results require extraordinary efforts. An extraordinary effort means a particularly strict diet, and burning more calories through training because you can only cut food intake so much before you're starving and suffering from severe hunger.

Simply put, you need a bigger calorie deficit.

If you have a 2500 calorie daily maintenance level, and you want to drop 3 lbs of fat per week with diet alone, you'd need a huge daily deficit of 1500 calories, which would equate to eating only 1000 calories per day. You would lose weight rapidly for as long as you could maintain that deficit (although it would slow down over time). Most people aren't going to last long on so little food and they often end with a duration of binge eating. It's not practical (or fun) to cut calories so much and it could be unhealthy.

The alternative is to train for hours and hours a day, literally. People ask me, "Tom, how is it possible for the Biggest Loser contestants to lose so much fat? First of completely they're not measuring body fat, only body weight. Then you have the high starting body weights and large water weight loss in the beginning. After that, just do the math - they're training hours a day to create a huge calorie deficit.

But without the trainers, dieticians, teammates, a national audience and all that prize money, do you think they'd be motivated and accountable enough to do that amount and intensity of exercise in the real world? Would it even be possible if they had a job and family? Not likely. It's not practical to do that much exercise, and it's not practical to cut your calories below a 1000 a day and remain compliant. If you manage to achieve the latter, it's very difficult not to regain the weight afterwards for a variety of physiological and psychological reasons.

Trainers are becoming more inventive these days in coming up with high intensity workouts that burn a lot of calories and really give the metabolism a boost. This can help speed up fat loss. But as you begin to use higher intensity workouts, you must initiate being on guard for overtraining or overuse injuries. That's why strict nutrition with an aggressive calorie deficit is going to have to be a major part of any fast fat loss strategy. Unfortunately, very low calorie dieting has its own risks in the way of lean tissue loss, slower metabolism, hunger, and weight relapse.

My approach to long term weight control is to lose weight slowly and patiently and follow a nutrition plan that's well balanced between lean protein, healthy fats and natural carbs and does not demonize any entire food group. To lose fat, you simply create a caloric deficit by burning more and eating less while keeping the nutrient density of those calories as high as possible.

But to achieve the extraordinary goals e.g. photo-shoot-ready, super-low body fat or faster than average fat loss, while minimizing the risks, I often turn to a stricter cyclical low carb diet for brief "peaking" programs. I explain this method in my e-book Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle (it's my "phase III" or "competition" diet).

The cyclical aspect of the diet means that after three to six days of an aggressive calorie deficit, you take a high calorie / high carb day to re-feed the body and re-stimulate the metabolism. Essentially, this helps reduce the starvation signals your body is receiving. It's also psychological break which helps improve compliance and prevent relapse.

The higher protein intake can help prevent muscle loss and curb hunger. Protein also helps ramp up dietary thermogenesis. A high intake of greens, fibrous vegetables and low calorie fruits can help tip the energy balance equation in your favor as those foods are low in calorie density and some of the calories in the fiber are not metabolizable. Healthy fats are added in adequate quantities, while the calorie-dense simple sugars and starchy carbs are kept to a minimum except on reefed days and around intense workouts.

In my experience, a high protein, reduced carb approach in conjunction with weights and cardio can help maximize fat loss - both for increasing speed of fat loss and particularly for getting rid of the last stubborn fat. But always bear in mind that the faster fat loss is a happen of the bigger calorie deficit, not some type of "low carb magic." If your diet was high in natural carbs but you were able to maintain the same large calorie deficit, the results would be similar.

It's also vital to know that there's no magic in faster fat loss, just math. All the new-fangled dietary manipulations and high intensity training programs that really do help increase the speed of fat loss all come full circle to the calorie balance equation in the end, even if they claim their method works for other reasons and they do not mention calories at all.

Faster fat loss IS possible. My question is, are you willing to tolerate the hunger, low calories and high exercise? Do you have the work ethic? Do you have the dietary restraint necessary to halt yourself from binging and putting the weight back on when that aggressive diet is over? Or would you rather do it in a more moderate way where you're not killing yourself, but instead you're making slow and steady lifestyle changes and taking off 1-2 lbs of pure fat per week, while keeping all your hard-earned muscle?

Remember, 1-2 pounds per week is 50-100 pounds in a year. Is that really so slow or is that an astounding transformation? You don't increase 50-100 pounds overnight, so why expect to take it off overnight? Personally, I think short-term thinking and the pursuit of quick fixes are the worst diseases of our generation.

If you want a "results not typical" fat loss transformation, it can be done and it may be a perfectly appropriate short-term goal for the savvy and sophisticated fitness enthusiast. It's your call. But when you set your goals, it might be wise to remember that old fable of the tortoise and the hare, and buyer watch out if you go shopping for a fast weight loss program in today's shady marketplace.

The food we eat, the air we breathe and water we drink are somewhat tainted (waste products, inorganic chemicals, red dye #1, etc.). We tend to overeat, which naturally increases toxins, waste. Everyone needs to detox but is detoxification for everyone? Detoxing cleanses, removes excess: nutrients, non-nutrients, etc. from the blood, intestines, liver, kidneys, etc. It also drains energy, and in the extreme, weakens all function, including digestion. Digestion transforms food, nutrients into blood, into structure into function, into health or disease. Weak, incomplete digestion transforms less food, nutrients into blood, creating less, thinner blood, which in turn, thins, weakens everything else. Most detoxification programs, formulas involve bitter herbal medicine (golden seal, gentian root, aloe vera), digestive enzymes, spices, bulking, cleansing agents (psyllium, clay), acidophilus, etc. Bitter herbs are cold and dry in nature. Cold and bitter contract, dry and move blood down through the liver, arteries, veins, etc. They help lessen cholesterol, fatty deposits, etc. while also draining excess moisture, dampness (water. mucous, phlegm, cellulite, etc.).

Women (menstruation), kids and the elderly (age) tend to have cold, weak digestion, especially if they eat a cold, damp diet (milk, yogurt, pasta, bread, salads, fruit, juices, shakes, cold drinks, etc.). Men, in general, have stronger digestion. This is due in large part to testosterone and the tendency to eat more protein, fat, cooked foods, etc.

Bitter herbs, psyllium, clay, etc, in combination with tropical fruits, salads, and cold drinks tend to worsen cold, damp and or weak conditions (chronic fatigue, easily perspires, thin, dry skin, hair and or nails, anemia, infertility, miscarriage, short-term pregnancy, impotence, loose stools, edema, cellulite, yeast infections, Candidiasis, depression, fear, hysteria, etc.).

Detoxification of the body always starts with diet, food. Impure, highly processed foods tend to contain significant amounts of toxins, poisons. Too much protein and fat (meat, eggs, cheese, oil, etc.) tends to poison and clog the blood, liver, heart, arteries, veins, intestines, etc. Too many fruits, vegetables and grains sweeten, weaken and slow down blood, body fluids, etc. allowing infection to occur.
