How You Can Get Rid of Insomnia Naturally

Almost everyone experiences insomnia or sleeplessness at times. Noise, pain, coffee, irregular hours, unfamiliar surroundings and worry can all lead to restless nights. Because time drags when they are trying to sleep, most people overestimate their sleeplessness. There are no legitimate rules about how much sleep is necessary; everyone's needs are different. Babies and some teenagers may sleep for 18 hours each day, but elderly people may require only five or six hours.

There are two types of sleep; deep sleep and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, during which dreaming occurs. Both types of sleep are necessary if you want to start the next morning feeling refreshed. Lack of sleep causes irritability, inefficiency and inability to concentrate at school or work. Some insomnia suffers become so wound up that they cannot relax enough to sleep. A vicious circle of overtiredness and insomnia develops and the victim becomes exhausted.

Insomnia, particularly early waking, may be a symptom of depression. Sufferers also lack energy and finding every task to be difficult.Provided the insomnia is not a result of indigestion or a medical condition, a soothing, relaxing, sedating massage can work wonders if applied at bedtime, or as near as possible before that.

Herbal medicine: Infusions of chamomile or lime blossom are gently relaxing. So take 2 teaspoonfuls at night. Individual treatment and counseling may be needed for chronic insomnia due to stress and tension. In short term cases herbalists may prescribe 1 teaspoon of passion flower or cowslip tincture each night.

Incredibly, sunlight and work may be the best, and only true cures.
